Cross-Cultural Solutions

Cross-Cultural Solutions’ flexible international volunteer programs offer the opportunity to come face-to-face with global issues and become part of productive solutions. They have developed partnerships with social service pioneers in a number of host countries and sponsor projects that focus on health care, education, and social development. Volunteer Abroad participants can choose from almost 200 start dates in 12 countries.


Earthwatch Institute

Earthwatch expeditions allow participants to work side-by-side with leading scientists on ongoing research projects worldwide. Fellowships are awarded through a competitive application process to elementary, middle, and high school educators and administrators of all disciplines.


Fulbright Teacher and Administrator Exchange Program

Since 1946, the Fulbright Teacher and Administrator Exchange Program has helped nearly 23,000 teachers and administrators contribute to mutual understanding between the United States and countries around the world.

Global Links: Global Educators Program

The Global Educators Program provides educators with a short-term, 3-4 week, team-teaching and/or shadowing experiences in school sites around the world. All participants register for a six-credit continuing education graduate course titled “Gaining a Global Perspective through Cultural Immersion”; credit is offered through the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, MN. The program has been developed to serve the needs of educators from all educational levels (pre-K through post-secondary) and all subject/content areas, including administrators, special needs, counselors, etc. For more information, email carol@global-links.org



Global Volunteer Network

The Global Volunteer Network offers volunteer opportunities in community projects throughout the world. They currently provide programs in Cambodia, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Honduras, India, Kenya, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam.



Global Volunteers

Global Volunteers place volunteers in 150 programs in 20 countries, including the United States. Teams of volunteers live and work together with local people on human and economic development projects.



Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Village trips allow participants a unique opportunity to become active partners with people of another culture. Team members work alongside members of the host country to build homes in impoverished areas.



Projects Abroad

Projects Abroad has many volunteer programs for both educators and students (16 and over). Programs are in teaching, care and community, medicine, conservation, business, journalism, veterinary medicine, physiotherapy, animal care, IT projects, sports, law, Nomad projects, Inca projects, Khmer projects, Spanish, French and Russian. Programs are currently available in Argentina, Bolivia, Cambodia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal, Peru, Romania, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.



Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships

The Ambassadorial Scholarships program sponsors several types of scholarships for individual study terms ranging from three months to two years abroad. Qualified professionals can apply through their local rotary clubs. While abroad, scholars give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with local Rotarians and others the experiences that led to greater understanding of their host countries.



Service Civil International Voluntary Service

Service Civil International is a non-profit network for voluntary service promoting global tolerance and understanding through grassroots community service in 50 countries. Its work camp service visits require less out-of-pocket costs, but are somewhat more rustic—often requiring volunteers to bring sleeping bags and tents. Participants must be willing to live, work, and cook together with others from different backgrounds and cultures.



Teachers Without Borders

Teachers Without Borders is a non-profit, international NGO founded in 2000, devoted to closing the educational divide through teacher professional development and community education. This organization focuses on the building of teachers. They work primarily, but not exclusively, in developing countries, in order to build self-reliance, health, and capacity. Country Offices are in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burundi, China, India, Israel, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Africa.



Two Worlds United: Programs Abroad for Teachers

Teacher Programs abroad range from 4 to 8 weeks in length. Two Worlds United programs vary from studying French in Paris to working as a German teacher in Germany. Other programs offer the possibility of intensive classes during the program at the university level. Summer programs are also available for teachers and student groups. Two Worlds United group programs are home-stays, allowing groups to experience the lifestyle and culture from within the homes of its native people.



WorldTeach at the Center for International Development

WorldTeach is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based at Harvard University which provides opportunities for individuals to make a meaningful contribution to international education by living and working as volunteer teachers in developing countries. In addition to year-long programs, World Teach also offers 2-month service programs in China, Costa-Rica, Ecuador, Namibia, Poland, and South Africa.

This site provides a safe online community that connects students and teachers from over 200 countries and territories. You can search for ePal connections based on age, grade, geography, curriculum, or language. Site offers many projects for collaboration as well as instant language translation in up to seven languages.

World View arranges WebFriend connections between rotary scholars abroad and North Carolina classes and schools. Teachers can choose a WebFriend from Asia, Latin America, Africa, Australia, or Europe for their classes to correspond with regularly.
